then
lively sounds was started in 1984 by a couple parents that had very musical children. they were sick of the overcrowded public schools, and private schools always cost too much money -- not to mention the fact that they hardly centered around music. there were, of course, other music-oriented schools, or arts schools. but these focused on classical, and instrumental, rather than the more interesting sorts.
these parents wanted their kids to play good music, nothing bubbly, poppy, or overly electronic. they wanted them to have a good time while learning, and get the most they could out of those four high school years.
so the three families opened lively sounds academy. open to students by audition only, the funds come from private donors and fundraisers. there is no tuition, but getting in can be a trick. ever since 1984, kids have been learning and expanding their musical realms with alternative, rock, folk, and any types of music that will most definitely not feature lil' wayne or britney spears.
now
still true to its original purposes, lively sounds keeps on running. they have a decent student body, and alum of previous years have been known to sign record deals, play fair shows, and get themselves out there.
but now, as teenagers develop, and technology is a greater abundance, students are wilder and more raucous than that of the school's founding years. let's just say that there's plenty of drama, fighting, and malignment to go around -- oh, and don't forget the music.
